Hessonite garnet, orange tint, very rare
in the larger sizes.
Almandine garnet is the traditional Indian garnet which is very
dark purplish red.
Rhodolite is a garnet
that is between pyrope and almandine, a lighter red to almost
black in large stones.
Spessartite garnet which is a beautiful orange is cut in a high
dome cabochon form.
Dermatoid, a green
garnet, is available in small sizes.
Pricing --
The price of almandine garnet varies between $.30 and $4.00 per
carat depending on size and quality.
The price of rhodolite garnet varies between $1.00 and $10.00.
SPESSARTITE - garnet in
cabochon is priced at about $3.00 a carat
due to the fact that good quality stones are very rare.
DERMATOID
- garnet is priced by the
stone. It is very rare and
therefore expensive.
GARNET - is always
calibrated in standard sizes in either oval, round, rectangular or emerald cut.
Some old miners cuts are available for restoration of antique jewelry.
